Mary Mary Quite Contrary

This is a set of photos Pim took that shows our new landscaping. Since he took the photos, the grass has been growing between the driveway and garage.

This is the view from the far side of the garage toward the house. Soon, there will be grass in the foreground and the evergreens between the driveway and the patio will obscure the driveway completely for people sitting on the patio. The tree in the middle of the yard is a "macchia." It will eventually get 30 - 40 ft high. It has a high, open canopy that will give the yard dappled shade.

This is the view from the back porch. We hope to install a small water fountain at the very back against the fence one day.

All of the bushes and grasses were chosen because they are native, hardy, drought resistant and/or have a particular feature attractive to wild life.

These five bushes are small lilac bushes. They won't get much taller than the fence they are planted beside.

We are letting English Ivy grow from the stockade fence up to the house on the south side of the house, and we have laid down slate stepping stones that will be surrounded by the ivy.

Helena's butterfly garden grows alongside the garage. Across from it is the playhouse Pim built. We have installed lots of bird feeders hoping to attract wild life year round.
